The Gulls announced today the club has signed right wing Spencer Abbott to a one-year contract through the 2017-18 AHL season. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.
Abbott, 29 (4/30/88), has appeared in two career NHL games with Toronto (2013-14) and Chicago (2016-17). He earned 18-31=49 points with 16 penalty minutes (PIM) with San Diego and Rockford in 2016-17. Following his acquisition by the Anaheim Ducks from the Chicago Blackhawks on Mar. 1, 2017 season Abbott earned 3-11=14 points and two PIM in 16 regular-season games with the Gulls. He scored 15-20=35 points with 14 PIM in 53 games with Rockford last season, leading the IceHogs in scoring and goals, co-led in power-play goals (5) and ranked tied for second in assists before joining San Diego. In eight Calder Cup Playoff games, Abbott ranked tied for third on San Diego in scoring (1-5=6) and led in assists.
The 5-9, 170-pound forward has played 256 career AHL games with Toronto (2012-15), Rockford (2015-17) and San Diego (2017) registering 67-130=197 points with a +8 rating and 58 PIM. He has also collected 10-28=28 points with six PIM in 37 career Calder Cup Playoff games.
