GAME PREVIEW: Gulls Are Back on the Road to Face the Condors Tonight (7:00 p.m.) – Season Series is tied 2-2.

The Gulls face off against the Bakersfield Condors (AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers) tonight at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, CA. San Diego has an 11-9-0-1 (23 points) record after dropping both contests on the road last weekend vs. Bakersfield and Stockton.

The Gulls and Condors (9-9-1-1; 21 points) last met exactly one week ago in Bakersfield with the contest ending in favor of the Condors, 6-4. The Gulls put up a season-high of 45 shots on goal in the loss.

The Condors were quick out of the gate, netting their first goal at just 1:19 of the first period. A Bakersfield power play followed just minutes later, due to a holding call on defenseman Shea Theodore. The Condors converted on the one-man advantage scoring their second of the game at 7:30. Bakersfield tallied their third goal of the period at 17:04 to go up 3-0. The Gulls avoided a blank opening frame with a power play goal from left wing Nic Kerdiles with just over a minute left in the period.

The tone remained similar throughout the second period and again started off quick for the Condors with a goal by center Josh Currie at 3:17. Just five minutes later, Condors left wing Kale Kessy scored to put the Condors up 5-1.  Gulls head coach Dallas Eakins made a goalie switch, putting input backup Jeff Lerg (on a PTO from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye) in net with 6:28 remaining in the second period.

The final frame saw a change in energy with the Gulls controlling from start to finish. Shea Theodore scored his third goal of the season on the power play at 6:11 of the frame. Gulls center Antoine Laganiere netted his sixth of the season to bring San Diego within two with just over eight mintues to play. The late comeback just wasn’t enough for the Gulls as the Condors scored an empty netter at 18:52. Gulls right wing Tim Jackman scored with just 24 seconds left in regulation to result in the final score of 6-4.

San Diego and Bakersfield will meet eight more times this season (including tonight). Four of these contests will be held at Rabobank Arena and four at Valley View Casino Center.
