GAME PREVIEW: San Diego and Stockton Match Up for Seventh Contest This Season (7:05 p.m.)
San Diego enters tonight’s contest with a 27-20-1-2 (57 points) record on the season. Stockton’s current record is 23-22-1-2 with 49 points. The Gulls are currently 3-1-0-2 vs. the Heat. Both teams last met in Stockton on February 26, where Stockton claimed the 4-3 shootout victory.
In the contest, Stockton opened scoring just 21 seconds into the game, a goal by Freddie Hamilton. Turner Elson followed suit with a goal at 1:54 to put the Heat up 2-0. Gulls center Kyle MacKinnon put San Diego on the board at 15:04 to close the deficit to one. Stockton’s Garnet Hathaway made it a 3-1 games just under four minutes later, but San Diego winger Brian McGrattan answered back with 59 seconds left in the frame. The Gulls headed to the locker room down by just one after the first period.
Gulls winger Stefan Noesen scored the last goal in regulation, a shorthanded goal at 17:00 of the middle frame to tie it up at three.
With the game tied 3-3 at the end of regulation, the teams headed to 3-on-3 overtime for five minutes. Neither club was able to score in the extra minutes, forcing the game into a shootout decision.
Stockton winger Kenny Agostino scored the only goal in the shootout to seal the Heat victory.
The Gulls outshot the Heat 50-34 in the loss.
San Diego and Stockton will face each other six more times this season (including tonight). Three of these contests will be held at Valley View Casino Center and three will be held at Stockton Arena in Stockton, CA.
