GAME PREVIEW: Gulls Face Off Against Ontario Reign for First Contest at Valley View Casino Center (7:05 p.m.).

The San Diego Gulls and Ontario Reign (AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings) will face each other for the second time in regular season (the first contest at Valley View Casino Center), tonight, to kick off a home-and-home series. The Gulls are 9-7-0-1 (19 points) after losing to the Texas Stars on Wednesday night, 5-3.

The Gulls and Reign met twice during the 2015 preseason, another home-and-home series, with contests on Oct. 2 at Citizens Business Bank Arena and Oct. 5 at Honda Center. Although the Gulls took both preseason victories, the Reign took the first regular season contest with a 4-1 win on Nov. 5.

During their last face off, Mersch opened scoring for Ontario by putting in a rebound after a blocked shot by Gulls then-goalie John Gibson.

The Reign extended their lead to three with consecutive goals by Adrian Kempe in the second frame. Brian McGrattan answered with the Gulls only goal of the game at 12:01. Ontario responded just over two minutes later with a power play goal by Adrian Kempe. With three tallies in the second period, Kempe earned himself a hat trick within the first 35 minutes of play.

The Gulls and Reign will meet 11 more times this season (including tonight). Six of these contests will be held at Valley View Casino Center and five will take place at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA. The Reign are 11-2-2-0 with 24 points on the season thus far.
