GULLS FACE RAMPAGE FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE GAME ON THE ROAD

January 3, 2016

GAME PREVIEW: The Gulls Take on the San Antonio Rampage for Second Game of Two-Game Series (2:00p.m.)

The Gulls (16-12-0-1; 33 points) face the San Antonio Rampage (14-12-7-0; 35 points) for the second of consecutive games on the road. The teams faced each other on Friday, a 3-1 Gulls victory.

San Diego controlled puck possession throughout the majority of Friday’s contest and outshot the Rampage 35-to-25 overall, yet neither team was able to find the back of the net until the second period.

Mike Sgarbossa opened scoring just over a minute into the middle frame. Shortly thereafter, Sgarbossa lent the assist as forward Nick Ritchie netted the second Gulls goal of the game, his twelfth of the season, stretching San Diego’s lead to 2-0 at 3:29 of the second period. Rampage winger Reid Petryk brought San Antonio back within one with a power play goal at 10:22.

Both teams battled through the final frame, but with just two minutes remaining in regulation, the Gulls drew a high-sticking penalty forcing San Antonio to pull their goalie for an extra attacker. Chris Mueller finalized the score with an empty netter at 19:06.

Gulls goaltender Anton Khudobin made 24 saves in the victory.

The Gulls and Rampage will meet four more times in the regular season (including tonight). Two of these contests will be held at AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX, and two will be at Valley View Casino Center.
