GAME PREVIEW: Gulls Face San Jose for Third Time on the Road this Season (1:15 p.m.)

The Gulls continue their two-game road trip with a midday contest vs. the San Jose Barracuda. San Diego is 7-2-0-0 (14 points) coming off of a 4-1 loss at Ontario on Thursday night.

The Gulls and Barracuda (3-3-0-1; 7 points) last met on Oct. 23 at SAP Center where San Diego came out victorious with a 3-0 shutout. Gulls goalie John Gibson stopped all 23 shots faced, earning his first shutout of the season.

Gulls forward Chris Wagner (recalled by Anaheim on Oct. 26) notched San Diego’s first goal of the game, a one-on-none against goaltender Aaron Dell, just 3:24 into the first period. Two Gulls penalties, just 58 second apart, put San Jose on a 5-on-3 power play in the middle of the first frame but San Diego was able to kill both penalties, keeping the 1-0 lead. Center Chris Mueller put one in off a rebound to increase the Gulls lead to two at 18:11 in the first period.

The Gulls and Barracuda traded penalties during the second period before Nick Ritchie tallied his fourth goal of the season, and put the Gulls up 3-0.

The final period ended scoreless, giving San Diego two points in their first shutout of the season.

San Diego and San Jose will meet 10 more times this season (including today). Four of these contests will be held at SAP Center in San Jose, CA, and six at Valley View Casino Center. The Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks, San Diego and San Jose’s respective NHL affiliates, will face off tonight at SAP Center (7:30 p.m.) to complete the AHL/NHL doubleheader.
