GULLS FINISH OFF ROAD TRIP WITH CONTEST VS. STOCKTON

GAME PREVIEW: San Diego and Stockton Face Off in Ninth Contest of the Season (7:00 p.m.)

San Diego enters tonight’s contest with a 34-22-2-2 (72 points) record on the season. Stockton’s current record is 28-27-2-2 with 60 points. The Gulls are currently 4-2-1-1 vs. the Heat. The teams last met at Valley View Casino Center on March 5, a contest resulting in a 5-4 overtime Heat victory.

In that last matchup, the first period was a busy one with a combined five goals scored. Gulls center Chris Mueller opened scoring just 56 seconds in. Turner Elson tied it up for the Heat less than two minutes later, followed by a goal from Kenney Morrison to take the lead. Mike Sgarbossa tied it up at 12:41, but Stockton winger Emile Poirier netted another for the Heat to send the Gulls to the locker room down by one.

Stockton netted their fourth with a goal by Hunter Shinkaruk at 3:11 into the middle frame. Mike Sgarbossa netted his second of the night at 9:49 of the period to keep the Gulls within striking distance.

Chris Mueller tallied his second of the night 14 seconds into the final period to tie the game at four. Neither team could find the back of the net again in regulation forcing an overtime decision.

Stockton’s Emile Poirier netted his second of the night and finalized the score with the game winning goal at 2:34 of the extra time.

The Gulls outshot the Heat 45-30 in the loss.

San Diego and Stockton will face each other four more times this season (including tonight). Two of these contests will be held at Valley View Casino Center and two will be held at Stockton Arena in Stockton, CA.
