GULLS KICK OFF MILITARY APPRECIATION WEEK AGAINST BAKERSFIELD

November 11, 2015

GAME PREVIEW: Gulls Kick Off Military Appreciation Week Against Bakersfield for Third Meeting this Season (7:05 p.m.)

The Gulls begin a three-game home stand, tonight vs. the Bakersfield Condors (AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers). San Diego is 8-2-0-0 (16 points) after a 3-2 victory over San Jose last Saturday.

The Gulls and Condors (4-5-0-1; 9 points) last met on Oct. 24 at Rabobank Arena where Bakersfield shutout San Diego 3-0.

In their last meeting, Bakersfield opened scoring early in the first period with a goal by Philip McRae.  Both teams traded penalties during the remainder of the first frame and into the second, prior to Leon Draisaitl adding a goal to put the Condors up by two.

The Gulls got into penalty trouble in the second period, resulting in them playing a man-down six different times during the first two periods.  Condors captain Ryan Hamilton notched a power play goal early in the third period to give Bakersfield the 3-0 lead, which would end up being the final score.

Penalties were a factor throughout the game’s entirety, including a line brawl with 11:09 remaining in the third period which led to fix game misconducts for the Gulls (Bickel, Mueller, A. O’Brien, Wagner and Zolnierczyk) in addition to five minutes for fighting and two minutes for roughing to Bickel.  The Condors received four game misconducts (Kessey, LaLeggia, Mooz and Winquist) in addition to a two minute penalty for roughing to David Musil during the altercation.

San Diego and Bakersfield will meet 10 more times this season (including tonight). Five of these contests will be held at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, CA, and five at Valley View Casino Center.
