GAME PREVIEW: San Diego and Ontario Meet for Game 2 of the Pacific Division Finals at Valley View Casino Center Tonight (7:05 p.m. PT)
The Gulls look to even the series with Ontario as they face the familiar rival in Game 2 of the Pacific Division Finals.
The clubs met on Thursday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA for Game 1, a contest ending in a 5-3 Reign victory.
In that matchup, Ontario got on the board first at 10:26 of the opening frame with a goal by winger Michael Mersch. Reign Captain Vincent LoVerde stretched the lead to two with a power play goal at 14:37.
Gulls forward Kalle Kossila netted the first San Diego goal three minutes and six seconds into the second period. Matt Bailey tied the game 2-2 at 5:32. Winger Joel Lowry scored at 14:37 of the middle frame to put Ontario back up by one heading into the second intermission.
Mersch scored his second of the night at 9:11 in the final frame of regulation to make it a 4-2 game. Gulls right wing Corey Tropp brought San Diego within one at 17:37, but Jeff Schultz scored shorthanded on the empty San Diego net to set the final score of 5-3.
Total shots for the game favored Ontario 29-19.
