GAME PREVIEW: San Diego Looks to Continue Strong Performance Tonight vs. Bakersfield (7:05p.m.)

The Gulls have won both contests since the All-Star Break and look to carry the momentum into tonight’s game where they will face the Condors for the seventh time this season. Bakersfield currently leads the season series between the two clubs, 4-2.

San Diego and Bakersfield last met on December 27 at Rabobank arena in Bakersfield, CA. The matchup was a physical one with the Gulls racking up 72 PIM and the Condors 43.

In the matchup, Bakersfield winger Matthew Ford opened scoring for the Condors at 18:06 of the second period, quickly followed by the game-winning goal by forward Ryan Hamilton at 19:02. Gulls center Mike Sgarbossa notched the solo goal for San Diego to bring the Gulls within one just three minutes and 26 seconds into the third frame. The Condors answered back with a goal by David Musil and Andrew Miller to hold the final score of 4-1.

The fight-filled third period saw the Gulls whistled for 62 of their 72 penalty minutes on the night, with the Condors adding another 33 of their own for a 95 PIM period. San Diego’s Brian McGrattan, Tim Jackman and Joseph Cramarossa all received game misconduct penalties during the final five minutes of the period, which ended with all the remaining skaters squaring off for the teams’ second line brawl of the season.

Entering this evening’s game, the Gulls are 21-18-1-1 (44 points). The Condors have a season record of 20-18-2-2 (44 points).

The Gulls and Condors will meet six more times in the regular season (including tonight). Two of these contests will be held at Rabobank Arena and four will be at Valley View Casino Center.
