GAME PREVIEW: San Diego and Ontario Face Off in Second of Back-to-Backs (7:05 p.m.)

The Gulls and Reign match up for the final regular season contest tonight at Valley View Casino Center. San Diego is currently 7-4-0-0 vs. Ontario. The teams met last night in San Diego, a game ending in a 4-2 Reign victory.

San Diego winger Matt Bailey opened scoring with just 23 seconds remaining in the first period. Jordan Samuels-Thomas got Ontario on the board at 4:29 of the second period.

The score remained tied until over halfway through the final frame of regulation. At 12:14 of the third period, Kris Newbury put the Reign up by one. Nic Dowd followed up with a shorthanded goal at 16:10 to stretch the lead to two. Michael Mersch made it a 4-1 game with a power play goal at 16:47. Gulls center Mike Sgarbossa cut the lead back down to two with a goal of his own just seven seconds later, but it was too little too late for a comeback.

The Reign outshot the Gulls 42-34 over three periods.

Entering tonight’s contest, the Reign have a season record of 44-18-4-1 (93 points), while the Gulls are 38-23-4-2 (82 points).
