GAME PREVIEW: Gulls take on San Antonio in first contest of the season, tonight, at Valley View Casino Center (7:05 p.m.).

San Diego is coming off of back-to-back contests, both wins vs. Stockton this past weekend. The Gulls took their first game of the two-game series,a 3-2 shootout victory. San Diego matched up with Stockton again, less than 24 hours later, for game two, also a 3-2 win, this time in regulation.

Stockton got on the board first with a goal by right wing Austin Carroll. Both teams traded opportunities before San Diego’s Antoine Laganiere scored his third goal of the season, assisted by forwards Kenny Ryan and Matt Bailey.

After San Diego and Stockton went scoreless in the second period, Stockton defenseman Oliver Kylington found the back of the net, a power play goal at 1:19 of the third period.  The Gulls were next up for a power play opportunity and Nick Ritchie used it to his advantage, recording his sixth goal of the season. Michael Sgarbossa and Chris Mueller added assists.

Tied at two, Gulls forward Max Friberg notched his third goal of the season, assisted by Michael Sgarbossa (his second of the night), a one-on-none with goaltender Jon Gillies, just 2:25 before the end of regulation.

The Gulls and the San Antonio Rampage (AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche) will meet for the first of six meetings this season, tonight. Three of these contests (including tonight’s) will be held at Valley View Casino Center and three will be held at AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX. The Rampage are 5-0-1-0 with 11 points for the season thus far. The Gulls have 12 points for the season with a record of 6-1-0-0.
