GAME PREVIEW: Gulls Visit Heat for First Time on the Road, Tonight (7:00 p.m.)

The Gulls begin their three-game road trip in Stockton, before heading across the country to take on Grand Rapids and Milwaukee over the weekend. San Diego is coming off of back-to-back losses against San Jose over the past weekend, bringing their record to 9-3-0-1 for a total of 19 points on the season. The Heat enter tonight’s game with a 3-5-0-2 record for a total of eight points.

San Diego has gone 2-0 against the Heat so far this season. Their last meeting was Friday, Oct. 31 at Valley View Casino Center, a 3-2 Gulls victory.

Stockton opened scoring early in the first period with a goal by right wing Austin Carroll, his first professional goal. Both teams traded scoring opportunities, before San Diego’s Antoine Laganiere answered, tying the score at 1.

The Gulls got into penalty trouble, including a 5-vs-3 penalty kill for two minutes but the Heat couldn’t close on the opportunity, and the score remained tied at one through the second period.

Stockton was first to break the tie with a power play goal at 1:19 of the third period but Gulls rookie Nick Ritchie answered back just 93 seconds later with a power play goal of his own.

With the game even at two, Stockton and San Diego continued the back and forth with the go ahead goal coming just 2:25 before the end of regulation. Forward Max Friberg notched the winning goal for the Gulls, a one-on-none with goaltender Jon Gillies.

San Diego and Stockton meet for the third time tonight. Puck drop is set for 7:00p.m. at Stockton Arena in Stockton, CA. Both teams will meet 10 more times this season (including tonight). Four of these contests will be held at Valley View Casino Center and six will be held at Stockton Arena.
