Antoine Bibeau made 28 saves to backstop San Jose to a 2-1 win over San Diego at Valley View Casino Center. Julius Bergman and Nick DeSimone scored for the Barracuda (19-16-0-2, 40 pts.) to sweep the weekend series in San Diego.

The Gulls (20-17-1-0) couldn’t solve Bibeau (12-8-0) after Dennis Rasmussen’s wraparound attempt deflected in off a Barracuda defenseman for the lone Gulls tally of the night, his second of the season. San Diego’s lone goal on the night for Rasmussen extended his point streak to a season-high three games (1G/2A).

DeSimone opened the scoring only one minute into the night for his fourth of the season. The Barracuda defenseman walked in from the point and despite being knocked off the puck, found the rebound off Gulls goaltender Kevin Boyle’s pad for the opening tally.

Rasmussen’s goal tied the game at 1-1 just over three minutes later and the first period ended with San Jose outshooting San Diego by a 13-11 margin.

The second period would sway back and forth for both clubs, but a roughing minor penalty levied against Sam Carrick put San Jose on the power play with four minutes left in the middle frame.

Daniel O’Regan’s point shot was deflected in the slot by Bergman who’s tip earned his fifth goal on the season.

A scoreless third period saw Carrick and Eric Fehr denied by Bibeau on breakaway attempts and the Barracuda skated to their second win of the weekend after snapping a nine-game losing streak in San Diego last night.

San Diego will return to action for a brief two-game road trip next weekend in a back-to-back weekend matchup at the Bakersfield Condors on Friday, Jan. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 27 (7 p.m.).
