GAME PREVIEW: The Gulls Face the Stars Tonight in First of Back-to-Backs on the Road (5:30p.m. PT)

The Gulls face the Texas Stars for the fourth time this season and second time on the road in first game of back-to-back contests. The Stars have grabbed victories in all matchups between the teams thus far.

San Diego and Texas faced off last Saturday in San Diego, where the Gulls fell by a final score of 5-3.

Both teams exchanged goals evenly through each period until Stars left wing Brendan Ranford netted the game winning goal and earned a hat trick at 17:18 of the final frame. Center Radek Faksa solidified the final score with an empty net goal at 18:36 after Gulls goalie Dustin Tokarski went to the bench for an extra Gulls attacker.

Kenny Ryan (shorthanded), Nick Ritchie and Chris Mueller each netted goals for San Diego in the contest.

Dustin Tokarski made his debut with San Diego after being acquired from Montreal in exchange for left wing Max Friberg. He stopped 14-of-18 shots faced.

Entering this evening’s faceoff, the Gulls are 18-16-1-1 (38 points). The Stars have a season record of 21-15-3-3 (48 points).

The Gulls and Stars will meet once more in the regular season after this weekend’s back-to-backs; a home contest in San Diego at Valley View Casino Center on February 17.
