SCOTT SABOURIN EXIT INTERVIEW

Scott Sabourin – RW

On the playoffs
It was a good push. I mean we came up a little short, but San Jose has a good team. I like the way our guys played until the final buzzer, and we played a pretty hard-fought series.

On the Gulls up in Anaheim
That’s the American League in general. Every year you have the National League teams win or lose out and then that kind of dictates what kind of lineups you have in the minors. At the end of the day, you still want to see Anaheim do well, obviously. I think we had a great group of guys here and we could have done it either way. It would’ve been nice to have a couple of those guys back, but that’s just kind of the way it goes.

On the team’s chemistry
I think it just starts with living in San Diego. It’s tough to have a bad day here when you wake up and there’s sunshine and beaches. You come to the rink in a good mood and we have a great group of guys, we had 50-something players, or something like that, and we all got along. There were no issues. That goes a long way.

On playing in front of the fans in San Diego
It was awesome. It was a great opportunity, a privilege to play here, the city has been great, the team has been great, the organization has been great. We came up a little short, but at the end of the day, we had a good season, a good group of guys, and we’ll see what’s in store for next year.

On taking pride in helping the Ducks in their playoff run
You want to see both organizations do well, and we’ll be watching closely to see what happens with the Ducks. It’s always nice to see guys graduate and move on to the next level, and best of luck to all our guys who are headed up there to black ace and hopefully get some games in. I hope they go all the way.

On his season on a personal level
I was kind of trying to reestablish myself in the American League. I think Dallas and the coaching staff and the rest of the organization gave me that opportunity and I’m extremely grateful for it. I’m very happy with the way my season went.

On his summer plans
Just going to stay in shape and stay ready. Hopefully I get the chance to come back here next year. We’ll see what’s in store. But going to take a little time off in the next couple weeks and get back to work. I will be headed back to Ottawa pretty shortly. I have a sister getting married in a bit, so hopefully get home to that in time.

A final message to the fans
Thanks for all the support this year. Hopefully I’m back next year, and we can put together an even better run.
