It’s a battle of the birds tonight at Pechanga Arena San Diego, as the Gulls take on the Bakersfield Condors in the final game of their three-game homestand (7 p.m. PDT; TV: AHL TV; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).

Fresh off an 8-4 loss to Calgary on Sunday, San Diego is prepped to right the ship, and they’ll need to get it right fast as the team sits 18 points out of playoff position with 13 games left on the calendar.

"It’s about being disciplined," assistant coach Jason Clarke said. "If we’re disciplined and don’t let Bakersfield have seven or eight power plays, then we should be good.

"The last time we played them here, we stayed out of the box… We just need to stay out of the box and play five-on-five. If we play five-on-five, I think we can beat any team in the league."

The Gulls took the last matchup with the Condors earlier in the month, a 5-3 victory on home ice on March 4. With one matchup remaining in the season series, San Diego will be looking to gain the upper hand in a key divisional matchup.

A few Gulls have been hot as of late. Glenn Gawdin was a bright spot in Sunday evening’s loss to the Calgary Wranglers, as he netted the 12th hat trick in Gulls AHL history. Nathan Gaucher found the back of the net for the third straight game, a new AHL career-high goal streak.

"I think when you do the small things, the little things, things will start to pay off," Gaucher said. "I just got to keep doing those little things that got me those goals and try to help the team out."

The Gulls will hit the road following tonight for a back-to-back with the Tucson Roadrunners starting on Friday.
