Tuesday night was a tough one for the San Diego Gulls as they couldn’t make things connect inside Blue Arena, dropping a 6-0 matchup to the Colorado Eagles.

"The bottom line is, we have jobs to do and we didn’t perform tonight to the standard that we want to uphold and it was unfortunate," assistant coach Kris Sparre said. "But, we’ve got another game in twenty-four hours and we’ll be ready to go for it."

Halfway into the opening frame, Travis Howe and Dalton Smith hammered away at setting the mood for Tuesday’s meeting as they exchanged haymakers at center ice.

Callahan Burke would be next to capture the spotlight as he snuck the puck in at 12:24. Less than a minute later, Chris Wagner tacked on another to add to Colorado’s lead.

At 18:47, the Eagles pulled ahead thanks to a goal from Jean-Luc Foudy to end the frame.

In the middle frame, Wagner netted his second of the night at 4:46. Spencer Smallman widened the gap to five at 9:44.

Alex Stalock took over from there to safeguard the Gulls’ nest in his first performance since his stint with the Anaheim Ducks.

In a dedicated push to answer back, the Gulls found some more control of play in the second but couldn’t spark the offense to get on the board to end 40 minutes of play.

"There was moments of good for us and signs that we started to push back," Sparre said. "It’s tough when you’re chasing right from the start of the game and just the mental part of that. But, with this group, I’m not worried about our response. We’re going to be good to go tomorrow."

Colorado soared ahead in the final frame as Burke struck again, taking advantage on the power play.

San Diego will be back for round two against Colorado tomorrow night, Wednesday April 17 at Blue Arena to conclude their season series (6:05 p.m. PST).
