The San Diego Gulls look to take their third win over the Abbotsford Canucks tonight at Pechanga Arena San Diego (7 p.m. PST; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).

Abbotsford remains slightly behind in the Pacific Division race. The team holds a record of 11-19-3-3 with 28 points, placing them at the bottom of the division. Despite their ranking, the Canucks are on a two-game winning streak and have logged a record of 5-4-1-0 in their past 10 games.

San Diego has shutout Abbotsford both times the teams have met so far this season. The last matchup was on Dec. 28 when Calle Clang recorded his first career shutout and the Gulls won 3-0. Since then, San Diego have extended their record to 15-10-6-2 with 38 points, tying them for sixth place in the Pacific Division.

In the Gulls last competition on Saturday, Jan. 10, they were shutout themselves by the Colorado Eagles.

"We got to get back playing Gulls hockey," assistant coach Michael Babcock said. "There's a certain brand that we talk about that's our identity, that's our standard. We got to get back to it."

The previous night saw San Diego defeat the Eagles in a shootout. The win was historic as it was the first time since 2022 that the Gulls won a game in Colorado. Defeating the division-leading team proved San Diego capable of climbing the rankings.

"We can beat any team in our division, that's for sure," defenseman Nikolas Brouillard said. "And we know we can beat them. We know it wasn't going to be an easy challenge coming in and get two games against Colorado. It was a really strong team, but I think we got to be on top of them. We got to win battles. We got to play harder. We got to play with that extra edge that we maybe don't always play with because it's the first position and they're the dominant team in our division."

The Gulls will go on a three-game run on home ice this week. Following tonight’s game, the Gulls will meet up with Abbotsford again on Friday, Jan. 16 before taking on the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Saturday, Jan. 17.

"It's always nice to get back home to have our fans supporting us. The crowd always gets us going," Brouillard said. "So, it's definitely going to be a good week for us."
