The first two periods didn’t go as planned for San Diego as the team couldn’t get on the score sheet in the first 40 minutes of play. The puck dropped for the final frame of regulation with two goals showing for the Condors and zero for the Gulls, but that quickly changed. Once again, San Diego used the third period to their advantage, scoring three goals, including two power-play markers.

Antoine Morand got the Gulls started with a score 1:18 into the third frame. Rookie forward Trevor Zegras picked up the lone assist on the score.

Bakersfield answered with their third goal of the night 4:34 after the San Diego score to take back the two-goal lead. Janis Jaks picked up the goal for his first of the preseason.

Condors forward, James Hamblin, took a double minor high-sticking penalty and gave the Gulls all the momentum they needed.

Rookie defenseman Jamie Drysdale kicked off the power play as he picked up his first goal of the preseason 10:01 into the period, marking his first score in a Gulls sweater. Zegras picked up another helper for his third multi-assist game this preseason (0-6=6).

Andrew Poturalski picked up the primary assist on Drysdale’s goal and potted another to tie the game shortly after. Still on the power play, Poturalski picked up a goal and his second point of the night (1-1=2) in the span of 1:12. Kodie Curran and Matt Lorito each added an assist on the scoring play.

The game was forced to overtime, where each team traded chances, but neither could capitalize for a winning goal.

San Diego netminder Jeff Glass, who relieved Lukas Dostal halfway through the second period, was the star of the shootout, stopping all three Bakersfield chances.

After the Condors failed to capitalize on their first shootout chance, the Gulls sent out Zegras, who did not disappoint as he scored on a backhand shot. Glass made a glove save on Bakersfield’s second chance and Poturalski shot wide to leave the game to Glass. Former Gulls center Adam Cracknell was denied on his chance as Glass secured San Diego’s third win of the season.
