The San Diego Gulls defeated the Ontario Reign at Pechanga Arena tonight in a marathon of a game, 6-4.

The game was full of action as San Diego tied their season high scoring record at six and marked their first back-to-back wins of the season. The Gulls’ record in their first 10 games now sits at 4-4-2-0.

Goaltender Ville Husso stopped a season high 41 shots, logging his fourth win of the season.

"It was amazing today," Tim Washe said on Husso’s performance. "Some plays we could have made to get out of some jams, but he was there for us to make the big saves. He had one of his best games all year, made a bunch of saves and he was huge."

Judd Caulfield opened the scoring up late in the first period with the help of Tim Washe on a shorthanded goal. This marks Caulfield’s fourth goal of the season and third career shorthanded goal. It also marks San Diego’s first shorthanded goal this season.  Caulfield ended the night with a career-high 1-3=4 points.

Nico Myatovic followed suit, logging a second shorthanded goal for San Diego five minutes into the second period. This gives the left winger two AHL career shorthanded goals and two total goals this season. Ryan Carpenter assisted the goal, marking the captain's fifth point on the season (2-3=5).

With about five minutes remaining in the middle frame, Nathan Gaucher found the back of the net for the first time since returning from injury. Gaucher missed the back half of last season and first five games of this season. Caulfield got his hands on the puck for his second point of the night while Nikolas Brouillard logged his first. This logs four points in two games for the defenseman.

"Yeah, it's awesome playing with [Tim] Washe, Nico [Myatovic] and [Nathan] Gaucher out there for a little bit too," Caulfield said. "Those guys were talking to me all night, just making it easy for me to make plays to them through the middle. They were flying with speed and just able to beat their D men wide and get some pucks to the net. They were picking their spots tonight and going in. It’s great to see it."

Washe found one of his own on a one-on-one to increase San Diego’s lead to 4-1. Myatovic logged his second point of the night on the assist and Caulfield logged his third, a season high for both players.

The action did not stop there as Justin Bailey found his third of the season on a breakaway goal. This marks back-to-back goals for the right winger, both being game-winning.

Washe found the net one more time to log his second two-goal, three-point night of the season. He now holds 10 points on his record (5-5=10) and leads all Gulls skaters in goals.

The Gulls and Reign will battle it out again tomorrow night on Ontario’s home ice at Toyota Arena (6 p.m. PST).
