Ducks Prospects Take Center Stage At 2021 WJC

NHL-Leading Four Ducks Prospects Named to U.S. National Team for 2021 World Juniors

Dec 12, 2020

Anaheim Ducks prospects are leading the way with Team USA.

The U.S. National Junior Team roster for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships, announced today, includes an NHL-leading four players from the Ducks organization. Forwards Trevor Zegras (ninth overall, 2019 NHL Draft) and Sam Colangelo (36th overall, 2020 NHL Draft) and defensemen Jackson LaCombe (39th overall, 2019 NHL Draft) and Henry Thrun (101st overall, 2019 NHL Draft) will represent their country when the tournament begins on Dec. 25 in Edmonton, Alberta.

The Ducks have six players overall at the tournament including the four Americans, Jamie Drysdale (Canada) and Albin Sundsvik (Sweden). Dates, times and the television schedule are listed below.

Zegras will make his second World Junior Championship appearance after recording nine assists (all primary) to lead the 2020 tournament, which ranked tied for fourth-most by a U.S. player in a single World Junior Championship.

Drysdale (Canada) will also make his second appearance after helping Canada to a gold medal in 2020. At 17 years, 8 months, Drysdale became the youngest defensemen since 2001 to appear in a World Junior Championship for Canada (Jay Bouwmeester, 17 years, 3 months), and the sixth-youngest Canadian defensemen all-time.

Four California-born players were named to Team USA’s roster, second only to Massachusetts (5).
