The San Diego Gulls put up a late rally but could not defeat the Abbotsford Canucks tonight at Rogers Forum, falling 5-2.

San Diego wasn’t on the board until 3:43 left in the third when Justin Bailey found the back of the net. The goal extends Bailey’s point streak to five games with 2-3=5 points found and brings him to a total of 20 goals scored this season.

Just 85 seconds later, Judd Caulfield found another to leave the Gulls down by just one. Caulfield totals 17-19=36 points this season, a new career record by 10 points. The forward has found goals in two of his past three contests.

Tristan Luneau, Sasha Pastujov and Nikita Nesterenko each tallied an assist tonight. Luneau extends his point streak to three games with 1-4=5 points found, Pastujov extends his to five games with 2-5=7 points found, and Nesterenko extends his to three games with 1-3=4 points found.

Calle Clang protected the crease tonight for the 31st time this season. The goaltender stopped 18-of-22 shots, playing an essential role in keeping the Gulls alive in the game.

San Diego and Abbotsford will close out this back-to-back series tomorrow as the Gulls look for redemption at Rogers Forum (4 p.m. PDT).
