The San Diego Gulls could not come out on top today as they fell to the Abbotsford Canucks at Rogers Forum, 5-3.
Sasha Pastujov was a huge help to the Gulls tonight as he got the team on the board with 0.4 seconds left in the opening frame and netted a second goal to tie it up in the third, both going in on the power play. Pastujov leads the team in points this season with 18-33=51 logged, a personal AHL career high. The winger has extended his point streak to six games with 4-5=9 points tallied.
The game was brought back within one in the second as Drew Elliott scored his first career AHL goal. Elliott made his AHL debut with the Gulls last season with one game played and has now skated in five this season. The goal came off a pass from Cal Burke who has posted 3-10=13 points with San Diego this season. The secondary assist was credited to Coulson Pitre, his third assist and fifth point of the year.
Ryan Carpenter ended the night with two assists added to his season total, bringing him to 16-24=40 points. Tristan Luneau tallied an assist which extended his point streak to four games with 1-5=6 points found. Mattew Phillips also tallied an assist, bringing his season point total to 12-32=44. Tomas Suchanek was between the pipes, stopping 16-of-21 shots.
San Diego looks to regain some momentum as they head home for an essential matchup against the Tucson Roadrunners on Wednesday, April, 1 at Pechanga Arena San Diego (7 p.m. PDT).
