The San Diego Gulls fell to the Calgary Wranglers in game two of their weekend series at Scotiabank Saddledome tonight, 2-1.

Sam Colangelo found the lone Gulls goal late in the second period to cut Calgary’s lead in half. The goal ended a six-game goal drought for the forward.

An assist picked up by Tim Washe brought the rookie’s point total up to 11-11=22. Washe has now logged 4-4=8 points in his past 10 games played. Defenseman Roland McKeown also logged an assist, breaking an eight-game point drought for himself.

San Diego consistently held a lead in shots on goal throughout the entirety of the game. The Gulls put up a total 53 shots, breaking the team’s previous AHL record of 50 which had been set three times prior. The Gulls put up 50-plus shots in both games against Calgary this weekend, the first time in team history recording 50 shots in back-to-back games.

The game saw Ville Husso back in the net as he returned to the Gulls after spending some time in the NHL. The goaltender saved 18-of-20 shots, keeping the game close throughout.

The Gulls will look to bounce back on Dec. 27 as they take on the Bakersfield Condors at Dignity Health Arena before returning home to Pechanga Arena San Diego on Dec. 28 to faceoff with the Abbotsford Canucks.
