The San Diego Gulls are all set for their first matchup against the Colorado Eagles tonight at Pechanga Arena San Diego (7 p.m. PDT; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
Following a loss on Saturday, the Gulls look to log their first win on home ice this season.
"When we look at that game, we didn’t love our start," head coach Matt Mcllvane said. "It was disconnected in the first period, but it got better as it went on. The positives were coming back from being down two and then down again. We gave ourselves a chance to win the game. In the end we weren’t able to close it out but there’s plenty of opportunities for growth and there were many positives in the game."
San Diego fell 4-3 to Henderson but were able to put up a tough fight throughout the game. The Gulls trailed by two to start the second period but were able to tie it up with a goal by Judd Caulfield. Following Caulfield’s goal, the Silver Knights took the lead back. Captain Ryan Carpenter ended the period with a goal assisted by defenseman Noah Warren to tie the game back up.
Forwards Matthew Phillips and Sasha Pastujov connected once again to allow Tristan Luneau to score the first goal of the game. Tim Washe was also able to get his hands on the puck, logging his first assist of the season. This marks points in back-to-back games for Phillips, Pastujov, and Washe.
Despite the positives on the ice, the Gulls could not pull through to take the game on Saturday but are ready to take home a win tonight.
"We’re going to be ready," Warren said. "We have a lot of fast guys, and we just have to be smart defensively. We have to be smart in their zone, when they get the puck, they’re going to start skating and start blowing the zone. We just got to be on top of them and play smart."
The Gulls will next play back-to-back games on the road against the Silver Knights, where they will seek redemption. The road trip starts on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. PDT at The Dollar Loan Center and the action will follow on Saturday Oct. 25 at 6 p.m.
