The San Diego Gulls and Henderson Silver Knights are set to meet for the third time this season as they open a back-to-back series tonight at Lee’s Family Forum (7 p.m. PST; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).

The Gulls and Silver Knights go into the night with an even series. With this weekend’s schedule, Henderson will have played San Diego three consecutive times. The team last played on Saturday Oct. 31 at Pechanga Arena San Diego against the Gulls and will now host them tonight and tomorrow, giving both teams an advantage of familiarity. The back-to-back series this weekend will complete the first half of San Diego and Henderson’s eight game season series.

"We know Henderson’s got a fast group of forwards," head coach Dave Manson said. "They play a certain way and we have to be able to match that and create our own. I thought the o-zone time was split in two and we’ve got to make sure we’re doing the right things."

The Silver Knights have skated in 10 games so far this season, posting a 6-4-0-0 record with 12 points. They have found a 15.9% success rate on the power play and 83.7% on the penalty kill. The Gulls have appeared in 11 games thus far, posting a 5-4-2-0 record with 12 points. The Gulls have found 14.6% success on their power play and 82.4% on the kill.

San Diego is coming off back-to-back contests from last weekend where they picked up three out of four possible in points in contests against Henderson and the Colorado Eagles. The weekend started against the Silver Knights where the Gulls ultimately fell in overtime. It was a tough fought game with the Gulls making a second period comeback to equalize the score, but they could not find the extra point in overtime. San Diego bounced back in Sunday’s contest when they pulled off a 3-2 shootout victory, avenging themselves against the Eagles as their last time meeting was when they swept the Gulls in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs.

"I thought we did a lot of good things," Manson said. "We were able to play with two very good teams with Henderson and Colorado. They were fast and I thought we were alongside them. Maybe deserved a better fate with the Henderson game, but it is what it is. Can’t turn their puck over and feed their transition, we’ve got to be disciplined at all times."

The Gulls goaltending pair this weekend will consist of Tomas Suchanek and Damian Clara. Clara has made four starts for San Diego this season, posting a 2-0-2 record with one shutout, a 2.45 GAA and .923 SV%. Suchanek made his season debut in Sunday’s contest earning his first win by saving 32-of-34 shots. The goaltender started the season in Tulsa after appearing in 15 games for the Gulls last season.

"It felt great," Suchanek said. "When I got called up, I was super excited and when they told me I was going to play the game, I just tried to do my best to help the team get the win."

Following tomorrow’s contest, the Gulls will return home on Wednesday, Nov. 11 to host the San Jose Barracuda at Pechanga Arena San Diego (7 p.m. PST).
