The San Diego Gulls fell to the Ontario Reign tonight at Toyota Arena, 4-1.

Following tonight’s loss, the Gulls and Reign officially split their 2025-26 season series. The Gulls end the season going 2-1-1-0 against the team. Tonight’s contest did not impact the teams’ standings in any way as the Gulls are locked in as the Pacific Division’s seventh seed and the Reign are locked in as the first.

Cal Burke opened the scoring on the power play for his fifth goal of the season, giving the Gulls the first lead of the game 9:26 into the first frame. The goal would end up being the only one San Diego was able to find throughout the 60 minutes. Burke has posted 16 points in his 57 games skated with San Diego this season. Defensemen Stian Solberg and Roland McKeown picked up the assists on the goal. Solberg has totaled 12 assists while McKeown has totaled 20 this season.

San Diego was down 3-1 entering the third after Ontario tied it in the first and found two in the second. The Reign later found a fourth goal in 5-on-3 play in the third.

It was a highly penalized game with four penalties called on San Diego and five on Ontario. The Gulls ended the night going 1-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill. The Gulls were held to only four shots on goal in the final period and could not capitalize on any chances to cut Ontario’s lead.

Goaltender Damian Clara made his third start of the season tonight, playing an essential role in keeping the Gulls in the hunt. Clara made some impressive saves, allowing only four goals through from 31 total shots.

The Gulls look to turn things around tomorrow when they close out the regular season with a contest against the Coachella Valley Firebirds at Pechanga Arena San Diego (6 p.m. PDT).
