There’s more hockey in store down south as the San Diego Gulls finish out their back-to-back series against the Texas Stars tonight at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park (5 p.m. PST; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).

The Gulls and Stars went head-to-head last night with the Gulls walking away with the win, 2-1. Nathan Gaucher netted his eighth goal and 17th point of the season to open the scoring for San Diego. Justin Bailey later scored the game-winning goal off a pass from Cal Burke. Goaltender Calle Clang guarded the net and found his 13th win of the season, stopping 28-of-29 shots.

"I think we just need to come in tomorrow and just focus on intensity," Burke said after last night’s game. "They're a really good team, and it's just going to come down to out competing. A lot of times on the second night, when you are a little tired, it's when you can kind of dig deep and play the way you're supposed to, that helps you out. So, we'll just focus on that."

San Diego is now 2-0-1-0 against Texas this season and hold an overall record of 24-16-7-4. The victory last night put the Gulls at 59 points, tying them for fifth place in the Pacific Division. A win tonight is essential to boost the Gulls in the division rankings. The team is 4-7-2-1 in second games of back-to-backs and hopes to improve that record tonight.

The Gulls have played tight games in their last three contests, each ending with a score of 2-1. The team came up short in losses against the Rockford IceHogs and Tucson Roadrunners but secured the victory last night.

"I think a big focus for us has been discipline in the last couple months, and it's starting to come through in our defensive game," Burke said. "We’re reloading above pucks, we're getting pucks deep when we need to, and we're just playing hard. So that’s been the difference there."

The Gulls will next finish out their three-game road trip with a game against the San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday, Mar. 4 at Tech CU Arena (5 p.m. PST).
