The San Diego Gulls fell to the Tucson Roadrunners tonight in their first meeting of the season at Tucson Convention Center Arena, 3-0.

Tonight’s shutout was the first by Tucson this season and marked the first time San Diego has been shutout this season. The Gulls put up 31 shots in attempt to find the back of the net, but could not find a way through.

Tucson’s starting goal marked the first time San Diego has not been first on the scoreboard this season. The goal came just 8:43 into the first and remained the only goal through the opening frame.

The Roadrunners doubled their lead in the second, with 10 shots on goal, which was just one more than the Gulls’ nine. The team extended their lead to three late in the third, putting one through on the empty net.

Laurent Brossoit was in the crease, his fourth start of the season. The netminder played a huge role in keeping the Gulls in it, saving 25-of-27 shots.

San Diego looks to come back and take two points from Tucson tomorrow night as the teams close out this back-to-back series back at Tucson Convention Center Arena (7 p.m. PDT).
