The San Diego Gulls fell to the Abbotsford Canucks for the first time this season tonight at Pechanga Arena San Diego, 5-3.
San Diego consistently responded throughout the night. While the Gulls held a lead into the second, when Abbotsford scored two back-to-back in the third Roland McKeown found the back of the net to tie the game back up. This marks the defenseman’s third goal of the season, and it kept the Gulls in the hunt.
Abbotsford had also tied the game up in the second, but Yegor Sidorov responded with a goal of his own. This marks his eighth goal of the season and 17th total point, putting him at the halfway mark to match his point total from last season.
Sam Colangelo opened the scoring with a one timer powerplay goal with only one minute and 12 seconds remaining in the first frame. He also picked up an assist on McKeown’s goal giving him 3-7=10 points in his past nine games with a total of 7-9=16 points this season.
Defenseman Tristan Luneau logged his second multi-point night of the season. Luneau picked up an assist on both Colangelo and Sidorov’s goals totaling him at eight for the season. Sasha Pastujov also recorded a two-point night after assisting McKeown and Colangelo’s goals. The assists increased his total points for the season to 8-18=26.
The Gulls and Canucks will compete in a rematch this Friday, Jan. 16 at Pechanga Arena San Diego (7 p.m. PST).
