The San Diego Gulls will play the Calgary Wranglers for the first time this season tonight at Pechanga Arena San Diego (6 p.m. PT; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
The Wranglers have played more games than any other team in the Pacific Division this season with 17. The team’s record stands at 8-7-2-0, giving them 18 points. The Gulls have competed in just 14 games so far and hold a record of 6-4-5-0 with 16 points.
"It’s our first time seeing them, so I'll be interested to see how they play," centerman Cal Burke said. "They’re always a hard to play team. I think they always have good details to their game so I'm not expecting a lot of room on the ice. I think they're going to be on top of us. It's probably going to be a hard-working game tomorrow."
The Gulls fell to the Coachella Valley Firebirds in overtime last night in the team’s third matchup of the season, 3-2.
Yegor Sidorov and Sasha Pastujov both netted powerplay goals in the first period to give San Diego an early 2-0 lead. Roland McKeown recorded a two-point night with assists on both goals. Ryan Carpenter also picked up an assist to extend his point streak to six games. Goaltender Ville Husso added an assist to his record and saved 24 of 27 shots.
"It'll be a fast turnaround," head coach Matt McIlvane said following last night’s game. "They'll [Calgary] be waiting for us in San Diego. I think the mentality for us is we felt like we left a point here in Coachella today, and we'll go try to earn that back tomorrow."
San Diego will next face off with the Tucson Roadrunners for the first time this season on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at Tucson Convention Center (6 p.m.)
