The San Diego Gulls will take on the Coachella Valley Firebirds tonight at Acrisure Arena for the second time this season (6:30 p.m. PDT; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
The Gulls and Firebirds began their seasons in a matchup on Oct. 10 where San Diego shut out Coachella Valley 5-0. Since then, both the Gulls and Firebirds have logged two wins in five games.
Last night, the Gulls shut out the San Jose Barracuda 3-0. Ville Husso logged his second shutout of the season and fourth as a Gull. This shutout tied the Gulls AHL record for career shutouts.
Yegor Sidorov started the action with a powerplay goal in the first period assisted by Matthew Phillips and Tim Washe. This marked back-to-back games with power play goals for Sidorov.
It was a huge night for Washe, as he recorded his first multi-point and multi-goal game of his AHL career. The forward found the back of the net in the middle frame with help from Phillips. This brought Phillips' team-leading assist record to six. Washe found the net once again in the third on an empty net goal, assisted by Nikolas Brouillard and Noah Warren. This was Brouillard’s first point back as a San Diego Gull and marked Warren’s third assist of the season.
"Yeah, on to the next," Washe said. "Every team's good so you got to be at your best to win this league. We're excited about another challenge."
The Gulls will hit the ice again on Sunday, Nov. 2 at Pechanga Arena San Diego in a rematch against the Colorado Eagles (5 p.m. PST).
