May 14, 2021

The San Diego Gulls defeated the Colorado Eagles 4-1 tonight at Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, CO.

THIRD PERIOD RECAP

Mike Vecchione put Colorado on the board, collecting his seventh goal of the season at 9:35 of the final frame. The first-year Eagle parked himself in front of Olle Eriksson Ek and tipped home a point shot from Keaton Middleton to ruin the shutout bid.

Vinni Lettieri put any hopes of a comeback to bed, scoring an empty-net goal with 2:11 remaining in regulation.

SECOND PERIOD RECAP

Nikolas Brouillard put the Gulls ahead by three with two lucky bounces.

The defenseman-turned-wing moved the puck over the blue line, looking to feed the puck across the ice to Chase De Leo. His pass deflected off both Matt Abt and Ian Scheid before sneaking by Colorado netminder Justus Annunen for Brouillard's third goal of the season.

Bryce Kindopp doubled San Diego's lead at 7:29 of the middle frame.

The Gulls emerged with the puck following a board battle, with Kindopp skating toward the low point. His low wrist shot found its way through traffic and past a screened Annunen for his ninth goal of the season.

Alex Limoges (1-1=2), Josh Mahura (0-2=2) and Eriksson Ek (0-2=2) finished 40 minutes with multi-point performances.

FIRST PERIOD RECAP

Limoges opened the scoring with a power-play strike at 4:34 of the opening period.

The rookie forward took a pass from Mahura, barging ahead into Colorado's zone. He wired a shot through Annunen, off the post and in for his 11th goal of the season.

Since joining the Gulls on March 25, Limoges leads the American Hockey League in rookie scoring (11-9=20).

Eriksson Ek collected his first AHL point and assist, recording a secondary assist on the power-play goal. It's the first time in franchise history a rookie goaltender recorded an assist, and the 11th time in team history a netminder found himself on the scoresheet.
