Gulls Can’t Defeat Eagles

The San Diego Gulls could not overcome the Colorado Eagles tonight at Pechanga Arena San Diego, falling 6-3.
Despite the loss tonight, the Gulls did put up a good effort against the second-place Eagles. Colorado did not take over the game until the third period when they were able to put four goals through.
Ryan Carpenter got the scoring started, finding the back of the net on San Diego’s first powerplay. The captain has scored three powerplay goals in his past three contests and now leads all Gulls skaters in powerplay goals with six found this season.
Colorado tied the game in the second, but Judd Caulfield made sure the Gulls got their lead back. The winger put a shot through off a rebound late on the powerplay, marking his first career AHL powerplay goal. This ended a 10-game goal drought for Caulfield and marks his 15th goal of the season.
The second period got rowdy as Drew Elliott got the crowd going as he dropped his gloves and took a five-minute major penalty for fighting in his first AHL appearance since October. Stian Solberg also got in on the action taking a two-minute roughing minor. Solberg leads all Gulls skaters in PIM with 84 served this season. Nathan Gaucher also took a roughing call late in the period.
Gulls point-leader Sasha Pastujov ended the night with both a goal and an assist. The winger netted the third and final goal for San Diego and was a helper on Carpenter's opening goal. Pastujov has found 14-28=42 points this season, with 11 of his games being multi-point nights.
Tristan Luneau tallied two assists, which extended his point streak to six games with 2-7=9 points found. Roland McKeown, Tyson Hinds and Yegor Sidorov also picked up an assist each.
The Gulls and Eagles will close out the first half of this series tomorrow night right back at Pechanga Arena San Diego (6 p.m. PDT).
