The San Diego Gulls couldn’t solve the Colorado Eagles tonight at Pechanga Arena San Diego, falling 2-0.
Colorado took the early lead on their first shot of the game, scoring just two minutes into the first period on a 2-on-1 break.
Neither the Gulls nor the Eagles were able to put anything in the net through the second frame. The period consisted of three penalties on San Diego, all having successful penalty kills. Defenseman Tyson Hinds was called for tripping, forward Justin Bailey for high sticking, and defenseman Nikolas Brouillard for hooking. In all, San Diego was perfect on the kill, going 5-for-5.
Ville Husso started in net for the third straight game, stopping 26 of 27 shots and keeping San Diego in the game.
Colorado was able to bury an insurance goal into the empty net with 49 seconds left in the third period to seal the victory.
The Gulls will hit the road this weekend for back-to-back games in Henderson, beginning Friday Night at Lee’s Family Forum (7 p.m. PT).
