Apr 25, 2021

The San Diego Gulls earned a point but fell to the Henderson Silver Knights 5-4 in overtime of tonight's game at FivePoint Arena.

Henderson's Pavel Dorofeyev scored the game-winning goal at 1:33 of the extra session, taking a pass from Jimmy Schudlt and putting it past Olle Eriksson Ek for his fifth goal of the season.

THIRD PERIOD RECAP:

Olle Eriksson Ek made a game-saving stop on Cody Glass, denying Henderson's scorer on a shorthanded bid in the late stages of regulation.

The Silver Knights took advantage of a missed shot, chasing down the loose puck near the Gulls blue line. A pass found Glass alone in the slot, but Eriksson Ek came to the top of his crease and bested Henderson's forward, stopping his wrist shot and covering the puck to halt play.

SECOND PERIOD RECAP:

The teams brought their offense out for the second period, combining for six goals in the middle frame.

Glass put Henderson ahead with his third goal of the season at 5:01 of the middle frame, finishing off a pass from Lucas Elvenes in the slot.

Trevor Zegras tied the game at two with his 10th goal of the season at 6:10 of the period.

Simon Benoit walked the blue line, floating a wrist shot toward the net. The puck deflected off traffic in front and found Zegras at the post, who wasted no time whipping it past Oscar Dansk for tying tally.

Zegras extended his point streak to three games (2-3=5). He sits tied for third among American Hockey League rookies in scoring (10-11=21) and goals, sharing the spotlight with teammate Benoit-Olivier Groulx.

Vinni Lettieri gave San Diego its first lead, deflecting a clearing attempt off his skate and past Dansk at 8:49 of the middle frame.

The wing pushed his goals streak to three games (3-0=3).

Elvenes brought Henderson even, deflecting a point shot through Olle Eriksson Ek at 10:18 of the period. The right wing has three points (1-2=3) to lead all skaters tonight.

The two teams scored just eight seconds apart to even the score at four.

Alex Limoges roofed a backhand to give the Gulls a temporary one-goal advantage at 13:34 of the period.

The rookie forward picked up a loose puck at the bottom of the faceoff circle, but a Henderson defenseman blocked his initial bit. He collected his own rebound and cut to the net, tucking the puck past Dansk and into the top corner for his fourth goal of the season.

Limoges has four points (3-1=4) in his last four games.

Danny O'Regan collected his second goal of the game, quickly responding to tie the game again.

The left wing snuck behind the San Diego defense, slapping a shot past Olle Eriksson Ek for his ninth goal of the season.

Dansk exited the game shortly after Henderson's fourth goal. Jiri Patera entered to replace the goalie.

FIRST PERIOD RECAP:

O'Regan opened the scoring just one minute into the game, collecting his eighth goal of the year on a sharp-angle shot to beat Eriksson Ek.

Andrew Agozzino tied the score with a power-play goal at 3:57 of the opening frame.

San Diego executed a flawless zone entry, with Josh Mahura sending a puck to Chase De Leo at the Henderson blue line. The defenseman sped past the Silver Knights defense, accepting the puck back from De Leo before firing it cross-ice to Agozzino, who quickly fired it past a diving Oscar Dansk for his 12th goal of the season.

The veteran center collected his third goal over the last three games (3-2=5) and leads the Gulls with seven power-play tallies.

De Leo extended his assist streak to three games (0-3=3).
