Gulls Aim to Frost Silver Knights in Round Two

Hope you put more hockey on your Christmas list. 

The San Diego Gulls look to ice out the Henderson Silver Knights in game two of their three game series tonight at Pechanga Arena San Diego for the Gulls’ Winter Wonderland game (6 p.m. PT).  

"No two games are ever the same," head coach Matt McIlvane said. "We're going to see a fight from them. I'm certain of that. I'm certain they're going to come out of the gate like they did today. And for us, it's a good learning experience for being disciplined to play into our identity, and it's something we know we can do. We have a lot of respect for our opposition, but we'll be sharper at the start." 

San Diego looks to net an early goal tonight as they host their annual Teddy Bear Toss Night. Following the Gulls first goal, fans are encouraged to throw a stuffed animal onto the ice. All stuffed animals will be donated to nonprofits around San Diego County.  

Last night, the Gulls defeated the Silver Knights 4-1 at Pechanga Arena. 

It was a big night for San Diego as they logged their third consecutive win. Goaltender Calle Clang saved 15 of 16 shots, meaning he has allowed only three goals in three games. Nikolas Brouillard made history as he logged his 100th point as a Gull and became the first defenseman in Gulls AHL history to reach that milestone.  

Matthew Phillips and Ryan Carpenter both ended goal droughts by scoring the first two goals of the night. Sasha Pastujov recorded his fourth point in his past three games with his seventh goal of the season and defenseman Stian Solberg logged his third with an empty netter.  

Following the win, San Diego has moved up to sixth place in the Pacific Division and now hold a 10-6-6-0 record with 26 points. Henderson remains in eighth place with a new record of 11-10-1-0.  

San Diego and Henderson will face off one more time in this three-game series on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at Lee’s Family Forum (7 p.m.).
