The San Diego Gulls are set for game two of their back-to-back series against the Henderson Silver Knights tonight at Lee’s Family Forum (6 p.m. PDT; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
The Gulls fell 3-2 last night to the Silver Knights in their first overtime loss of the season.
San Diego put up a tough fight, scoring two goals in the second period. Jan Mysak logged his first goal of the season and now has four total points. Matthew Phillips and Sasha Pastujov were credited with the assist, proving once again how powerful this trio is and how essential they will be tonight.
Roland McKeown also logged his first goal of the season last night, just 43 seconds after Mysak scored his. The goal gave the Gulls their first lead against Henderson this season. Mysak and Phillips assisted the goal, giving them two points each for the night.
"They had a really good shift, scored two-on-one so it was good to see that," assistant coach Michael Babcock said. "They were generating chances throughout the game. Nice for McKeown to get that goal too. We just got to find a way to pull the one out."
Goaltender Calle Clang played his first game this season and made a huge impact. He stopped 26 of 29 goals, keeping San Diego in the hunt.
San Diego faces Henderson for the third time this season tonight and are seeking their first victory.
"We should come here like a must win," McKeown said. "I’m pretty nervous about our game, in a good way, chomping at the bit to get a win."
The Gulls next appearance will be Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Pechanga Arena San Diego, where they will face off against the San Jose Barracuda for the first time this season (7 p.m. PDT).
