The San Diego Gulls could not close the game against the Henderson Silver Knights tonight in overtime, falling 3-2.
The first period went scoreless by both San Diego and Henderson.
The Silver Knights got on the board first with a goal 45 seconds into the second period.
The Gulls followed close behind with Jan Mysak burying a goal, his first of the season. Matthew Phillips and Sasha Pastujov worked together for the third time this season for the assist.
Just 43 seconds later, Roland McKeown got the puck right through the crease giving the Gulls the first lead and himself his first goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Phillips and Mysak, which marked Phillips’ second assist of the game and Mysak’s second point.
Henderson was able to tie the game up early in the third. A goal by Justin Bailey late in the last frame was waved off after the goal left the post, sending the game into overtime.
After a four-minute and 44-second battle, Henderson was able to score on a rebound to take the game.
Goaltender Calle Clang protected the net for the first time this season, saving 26 of 29 shots.
The Gulls look for their first win against the Silver Knights tomorrow night at Lee’s Family Forum (6 p.m. PDT).
