The San Diego Gulls are finally headed back home to start a back-to-back series with the Rockford IceHogs tonight at Pechanga Arena San Diego (7 p.m. PST; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).

In first games of back-to-back series, the Gulls are 12-1-2-0. The team has also found a record of 10-2-3-0 in Friday night games. Tonight’s matchup looks good on paper for the Gulls when observing their past success this season, and a win would break a two-game losing streak.

San Diego and Rockford last skated together in their first matchups since the 2023-24 season in late February at the BMO Center. Each team walked away with two of the possible four points that weekend. Both contests were close and San Diego took the first game 5-4 while Rockford took the second 2-1.

Since then, both teams have faced some recent struggles. Rockford has posted a three-game losing streak with their last victory being their one over San Diego. The Gulls have also had a hard time, posting a 1-2-2-0 record in their past five games played.

The Gulls last skated on Wednesday as they closed out their three-game road trip with the San Jose Barracuda at Tech CU Arena. San Diego fell 3-2 but put up a late rally to get back in the game. Tristan Luneau and Tyson Hinds scored goals after the team had been held 3-0 most of the game. Tomas Suchanek was solid in the crease, saving 24-of-26 shots after subbing in for Calle Clang early in the first.

Despite the recent hardship for the Gulls, the team is still in a comfortable position to make the playoffs. With 60 points going into tonight, the Gulls only trail the fifth-place Coachella Valley Firebirds spot by one point and lead the seventh-place Henderson Silver Knights by three. On the other hand, the IceHogs are not currently in a playoff qualifying position. The top five teams of the Central Division will advance, and Rockford currently sits in sixth place trailing nine points behind the fifth-place position.

Two more points are up for grabs tomorrow night as the Gulls and IceHogs battle it out in the final game of this series at Pechanga Arena San Diego (6 p.m. PST).
