The San Diego Gulls fell to the San Jose Barracuda tonight at Tech CU Arena, 4-1.
San Diego has had a hard time figuring out San Jose in their past few contests. The Gulls have gone 2-3-1-1 against the Barracuda this season, dropping their last three contests against the team.
In tonight’s contest, San Jose found two goals before Tristan Luneau put a slap shot through to cut that lead in half. The defenseman has extended his point streak to five games with 2-6=8 points logged. The goal would end up being the only shot the Gulls could get through. Ryan Carpenter took the primary assist, marking 2-2=4 points in his past two contests. Justin Bailey was credited for the secondary, breaking a four-game point drought and marking his 31st point this season.
Calle Clang guarded the crease for the 27th time this season. The goaltender faced 31 shots and saved 28 of those, with the final Barracuda goal going in on an empty net.
San Diego did successfully pull off another perfect penalty kill tonight. The team has been perfect on the kill in their past four contests now, going 2-for-2 tonight.
The Gulls will look for future success in a four-game series with the Colorado Eagles starting Friday Mar. 13 at Pechanga Arena San Diego (7 p.m. PST).
