The San Diego Gulls came up short against the San Jose Barracuda in overtime today at Tech CU Arena, 5-4.
San Diego showed a lot of offensive production throughout today’s game and stayed on top of San Jose a majority of the afternoon. Despite this, the Gulls were not able to find the back of the net first to secure the overtime win yet still secured three of a possible four points this weekend.
The Gulls struck first and fast with their first two goals scored less than a minute apart in the opening frame. Stian Solberg kept his momentum up from yesterday’s game, finding the back of the net for his second goal and fourth point of the season to get San Diego on the board.
Nathan Gaucher followed suit just 42 seconds later, collecting his first goal and point of the season. The 2022 first round draft pick finished the 2025-26 season with a career-high 15-14=29 points in 62 games played with 47 PIM and a +2 rating. Gaucher later tallied an assist to mark his first multi-point game of the year.
San Jose tied it at two in the first, but San Diego bounced back first in the second to regain the lead. Roger McQueen went five-hole for his second of the season following his power play goal in yesterday’s contest. This marks the forwards first professional goal streak.
Anton Wahlberg found his way through traffic to increase San Diego’s lead for his first goal of the year and in a Gulls sweater. Wahlberg picked up an assist earlier, giving him a two-point game and three total points this season.
Roman Kinal collected two assists tonight, which mark his first points of the year and match his career-high points in a season. Jett Woo also tallied two assists, his first points in a Gulls sweater. Ethan Procyszyn started his season point tally with one assist logged.
The crease was protected by Damian Clara, his first appearance this season. The goaltender saved 28 shots.
San Diego looks to rebound on Friday, Oct. 9 as they have their first meeting with the Coachella Valley Firebirds at Acrisure Arena (7 p.m. PDT).
