The San Diego Gulls will face the Texas Stars at Pechanga Arena San Diego for the first time this season tonight (7 p.m. PT; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
Texas will be the first non-division opponent for San Diego this season. The Stars hold a record of 7-10-2-1 following a shootout loss to the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Wednesday. The team ranks sixth in the Central Division with 17 points. The Gulls are currently tied for seventh place in the Pacific Division with a record of 7-6-5-0 and 19 points.
The Gulls last played a week ago when they were shutout by the Coachella Valley Firebirds. This marked the second time San Diego has been shutout this season.
"If you have a lot of months where you get points in eight of 11 games, and you're in great shape," head coach Matt McIlvane said following the game. "We've certainly shown what we're capable of. There's a lot of greatness within this group. Tonight, it wasn't up to our par."
Despite the loss, San Diego made November a month to remember. The team held a record of 5-3-3-0, marking 13 points for the month. The home record finished at 3-3-1-0 and the road record 2-0-2-0. This marks the second-most games with standing points in the month of November in Gulls AHL history.
"There are some things early in the season that you try to clean up," Justin Bailey said. "Obviously, we’d like some of those overtime losses back, but at the same time having points in eight out of 10 or 11 games is a positive sign. You want to turn some of those OT losses into wins."
The Gulls and Stars will take one night off before returning to the Gulls home-ice on Sunday for round two (5 p.m. PT).
