The San Diego Gulls could not solve the Texas Stars Friday night, falling 3-2 in overtime.
Sam Colangelo got the scoring going by netting a wrist shot with help from Ryan Carpenter late in the first period. This marks the forward’s fourth goal in his eight games back in San Diego.
With the game tied in the final frame, defenseman Tyson Hinds found his first goal of the season. The goal marks his seventh career AHL goal and fourth point of the season. Judd Caulfield and Carpenter helped deliver the puck to take back the lead.
Despite the game staying consistently close, Texas was able to take the extra point in overtime.
Goaltender Tomas Suchanek played his first AHL game since April 21, 2024. The 22-year-old saved 21 shots, keeping the Gulls in the hunt.
The Gulls look to redeem themselves as they face off with the Stars again on Sunday night at Pechanga Arena San Diego (5 p.m. PT).
