The San Diego Gulls took an overtime victory over the Tucson Roadrunners to end the 2025 leg of the season at Tucson Convention Center tonight, 4-3.
San Diego ends the calendar year with a record of 34-26-10-2. The Gulls earned standing points in all but two games in the month of December, going 7-2-1-1, and now stand in fifth place in the Pacific Division with a 14-8-6-1 record.
Despite a tough start to the game, Tim Washe scored an overtime winning goal to give San Diego four unanswered goals and extend their win streak to three games. Washe has now logged 2-4=6 points in his past five games.
The Gulls found a late push to give them the momentum to cut a 3-0 lead in the third period. Jan Mysak got San Diego on the board to start out the frame with a powerplay goal. Mysak has now found goals in three of his past five games, totaling seven on the season.
Matthew Phillips kept the action alive as he found himself a powerplay goal shortly after. The goal extends San Diego’s powerplay success to seven goals scored in five games. Just one minute and 32 seconds later, Sasha Pastujov netted the game-tying goal to completely cut Tucson’s lead. Both Phillips and Pastujov ended the night with two points as they logged a goal and assist each.
"I think me and Phillips have similar hockey minds," Pastujov said. "We’re always just looking for the right play and on that one specifically I thought the play to him was there, it got broken up a little bit, and then he got it right back to me and luckily I had time to shoot and it went in. He’s a heck of a player and he makes it very easy to play with him and yeah he’s a great player."
Justin Bailey gave himself a two-point night as he got his hands on two assists. Sam Colangelo picked up an assist, extending his point streak to four games. Colangelo has now logged 2-3=5 points in his past four.
The Gulls will keep the season going as they kick off the new year on January 2 in a matchup against the Coachella Valley Firebirds at Pechanga Arena San Diego (7 p.m. PT).
