The San Diego Gulls put on a show in their victory over the San Jose Barracuda tonight at Pechanga Arena San Diego, 4-1.

James Hamblin was on the board twice tonight, ending a seven-game goal drought with his first multi-goal night of the year. The assistant captain extended San Diego’s lead to two 11:04 into the third period. Four minutes later he capitalized on the power play to make it a 3-0 game and mark his first goal on the man advantage this season.

"I think the biggest thing is playing the right way," Hamblin said. "I think I know if I play the right way and I have fun that good things will happen. It for sure just hasn't gone in for a bit, so it was probably just a little bit of a release of emotion for sure."

Laurent Brossoit was solid between the pipes, earning his second win of the season while stopping 28-of-29 shots. The goaltender has appeared in six games for San Diego, starting four of the last five games for the Gulls, logging a  2.56 GAA and .910 SV%.

"I don't think you're going to find a goalie that says that they prefer to play intermittently," Brossoit said. "The most experience you can get, the most valuable experience you can get is in the net in game. You can do plenty in practice, but obviously you want to get in that game action and get a feel for game."

Gulls point leader Anton Wahlberg kept his streak going, tallying two assists to bring his point total to 1-9=10 which ties him for fourth amongst all AHL skaters in assists. The Sweden native has extended a point streak of 0-4=4 found in four games.

Defenseman Corey Schueneman got the scoring started, finding the back of the net from the blue line to record his first goal and point of the season. Schueneman is a seasoned AHL player, appearing in 387 total games where he has logged 32-110=142 points.

Nico Myatovic added to the count, finding a goal on the empty net to seal the deal for San Diego. Myatovic leads all Gulls skaters in goals with five, putting him just two short from passing his seven total goals logged last season.

The game got gritty in the second as Konnor Smith dropped the gloves  earning a five-minute major for fighting. The penalty marks Smith’s first of the season and brings him to a career AHL total of 35 PIM in 28 games played. Shortly after Herman Traff went on to receive both an unsportsmanlike conduct and roughing minor after a confrontation with San Jose’s Phillip Sinn.

Yegor Sidorov, Sean Farrell, and Jett Woo each added an assist to their point totals while Lucas Pettersson added two. Sidorov now holds two on the season, Farrell and Woo each hold three and Pettersson has found five.

San Diego will take a week off before returning for a Halloween special on Saturday Oct. 31 against the Henderson Silver Knights at Pechanga Arena San Diego (6 p.m. PDT).

"I think it's always good to have some rest for the boys, and they'll have the day off tomorrow, and we'll get back to work on Monday and work on a few things," assistant coach Kelly Buchberger said. "There's always things to work on in this game, and you know we have a young team. We have a lot of first-year players, and so we just got to work on our structure and the way we play."
